Scott Hewett, originally from Bradford, Massachusetts, moved to Sag Harbor in 1998 to pursue a lifelong passion in art. He holds a BFA with honors from Massachusetts College of Art and has won several awards including the Tom O’Hara Award for Illustration.
For Scott, the eastern end of Long Island offers an incredible variety of scenes and subject matter. He has embraced the area — from the farms, to the wooded areas, to the coast and the harbors, the lifestyle and especially the unique Long Island “light” — and renders his subjects into vividly colorful paintings. A local landscape, a rusted old truck or a still life painting of everyday objects like a peeled orange or crayon box, transports the ordinary into art. Most incredible is the large-scale size depictions of his subjects.
Scott has shown in group and solo shows at many local galleries. His work is in many private collections.
